During the first couple of IDEA Lab sessions we had the 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders practice some brainstorming, teamwork and problem solving by way of creating tracks for different sized marbles to ride on. The main material we used was pool noodles that were cut in half lengthwise. The students were given access to a solution cart of supplies to use as connectors. This included many things such as different types of tape, toothpicks, glue sticks and paper clips and more.
We worked in small groups at first and then graduated to trying to get the marble all the way around the entire room without the marble falling out or needing to be touched at all, with varying successes I might add! One class actually were able to get the marble around the room nearly 6 times! It was a great start to practicing some of the skills we are hoping to master!
These are the slides that were presented at Parent Night on 9/6/2018.
